yes i have been working..

so here is jess, theme: OUT OF CONTROL.. and control in relationships, as she's my friend! sorta thing.. i wanted to do a painting which stood out more in my exhibition.. so i did this, tihnking i was going to do two other ones as well. buuut it turns out i didnt have time so. i might do one other one as i have a photograph of mieke doing an 'out of control' face, when we get backt o school, and have the painting going on at home as well. but i think this might be enough for one project.. im not sure.. yes? no? p.s. the photograph is pretty bad as my camera broke and i used the webcam haha.. the colours are less dark and dirty actually..

alcohol & the jazz age 1920's

ok so here are some images i stole from pauline, taken at various parties. i really like the effect the camera made, a bit too pink on some parts but i can fix that. i was thinking they portray the use of alcohool in making people lose control of themselves, and the blurriness can relate to being under the influence also. i found an extract from The Great Gatsby which describes one of the parties which i think portrays the use of alcohol in the prohibition period of 1920's, where everyone was just starting to have fun. the use of colour and movement imagery goes really well with these images. i was thinking therefore for my next project to make a photoshop composition of these images, where the forms are all blurred and the colour is very prominent, and maybe stencil some of the extract from The Great Gatsby over it..
yes?

oh and it also ties in with the project which im doing now (control in relationships) as ive done a nice big painting close up of jess crazy face. these photos are also of my friends, so therefore its the control you have over your friends and their control over you.. as well as the alcohol business..

advice needed

Ok basically i was thinking of doing this collage of churches on paper, because i think it would work better than a composition on wood or soemthing.. so ive done these three.. using oil pastel and oil paint on the third one, which is actually the only one i like but oh well.. so yeah i was thinking of doing a collage of these three and then with my black and white Creffield-like churches in the background of like the inside of churches.. so its like the different mediums and stuff symmbolising the way different churches (religions) control people in different ways in different parts of the world.. kinda thing.. any advice on how i could bring it all together nicely, or push it further or something?

p.s. yes i know i left it late im sorry but i WILL finish it before school!

stage dos: experimentation

Well I researched Creffield and Monet, and experimented with combining their styles, to produce a new and wicked style of my own.. i liked Monet's use of colour, as his impressionistic style uses colour in an abstract way to represent certain lighting at different times of the day and different perspectives of the same thing.. and i liked Creffield's spontaneity and rabid strokes, which also seemed influenced by times of the day and weather. i attempted to put these two together to create my oil pastel colourful church thingy bobby.. I'm not finished developing my style because Im not completely happy with it yet.. i don't have photoshop so i have to resort to going back to pencil and paper :( its very depressing.. and i dont have a great amount of materials either.. but i wanted to do my final project on paper with chalk, charcoal and oil pastel.. with a composition of colourful (outside) churches, and then deep and lugubrious (haha) inside churches with chalk and charcoal, because the church CONTROLS people both on the outside (visually) and on the inside (spiritually).. so yeah..

copying monet's painting of rouen.. bit of a failure, but i like the oil pastels..: this was me having fun in england, with a style i just started to use when continous line drawing people on the street.. i thought it might work for churches but i decided it didnt..:

copycat of Creffield's inside of a cathedral, i like it especially because it fits so well with my photographs of the church in Vienna, (cheers Mr M):

using Creffield's style with my own photos.. my sexy new style.. im quite liking it..

just seeing how it looks with water-soluble graphite.. nothing special.. :

inside of churches, using Creffield's style (one on white paper, one on black sugar paper):
my sexy new style even bigger... not sure if it needs another colour? any suggestions?

churchey

whilst travelling around england visiting universities i thought I'd take photographs of the churches i saw across the country. so whenever i saw a church or a church-like interesting building i leaned out of whatever vehicle i was in at the time, and i came up with some interesting angles. I've altered some on the computer, because i think some need more colour, whereas some have a mystical effect. this is still at the research stage but i like how these photographs turned out, and I'm thinking of different styles and media's to use to paint them, because i can only really do a painting at the moment. i have canvas and wood, which would you think would be best? and any ideas for styles?
